Caitlin Allen - Young Ambassador

Caitlin is 20 years old and works as an asbuilt technician for Callan Connect, a Civil and Fibre Engineering company based in Aston, Birmingham specialising in the telecommunications industry. Since its inception in 2006, Callan Connect Ltd has grown from a team of 8 to well over 100 and been awarded contracts with blue chip clients such as BT Openreach and Virgin Media.

  • What does your job involve?
    What does your job involve?

    My job role is an Asbuild Technician. This involves me working as a connection between the client and the Delivery Team to make sure that all changes that have been made from our client’s original build plan have been changed on our build plan. I send over the final product to our client on a weekly basis.

    We have around 30 documents to complete per build area – design maps, cab locations, splicing scheduled to name a few

    What do you enjoy most about your role?

    There are many aspects of my job that I enjoy. I have a structured organised day, I also enjoy that I get to build relationships with my colleagues and stakeholders and that I have goals that I get to work towards, and it will never go unnoticed when goals are met.

    I applied through a job advert.

    What qualifications do you need?

    When I started my job I came in with my school qualifications, however for my job the qualifications that you would need are good communication skills as we need to communicate with our client on a daily basis. You would also need Microsoft and software skills.

    To learn how to do my job I shadowed a senior asbuild technician in order to learn all of the different components. The company also provides many of training courses in line with our job roles and professional aspirations.

  • What would you say to anyone considering the sector?
    What would you say to anyone considering the sector?

    To anyone who would like to join the sector I would say that it would be a great place to be if you’re open to expansion and growth of knowledge. You get to work with many different types of personalities and job roles which in turn educates and develops yourself.
