Home to successful global telecom companies and internationally-recognised universities leading in telecoms research, the UK has many advantages when it comes to telecoms and innovation broadly, hosting several regional clusters of expertise. But VC investment in telecoms is often concentrated in the South and in particular in London, meaning the sector is likely missing out on ideas and talent originating from other parts of the country.
UKTIN is committed to working with regional and national leaders across the UK to identify, promote and increase the success of the UK’s telecoms and technology clusters. We want to facilitate increased entrepreneurship, encourage inward investment and enable the creation of more skilled jobs, ensuring that the whole of the UK can benefit from a strengthened telecoms ecosystem.
Our UKTIN Clusters Group will meet quarterly and initially focus on co-developing a common fact base of the telecom research, development and innovation assets, capabilities and support that exist throughout the UK. The group will be action-oriented, from raising awareness of these capabilities domestically and overseas, to facilitating regional engagement in government funding opportunities and supporting organisations looking to invest or expand their presence in the UK. Providing an opportunity to collaboratively identify challenges, share best practices, brainstorm solutions and drive change.
