Future Connectivity: a wealth of opportunities

Connectivity underpins all of modern life, from commerce to personal communication and the delivery of public services. Our communication needs - and the systems required to meet them - are becoming increasingly complex and as a result our sector is evolving and expanding.

The traditional view of 'telecoms' tends to focus on NetCos - the operating infrastructure such as fibre, core and access layers, and is often dismissed as simply 'dumb pipes'.

But there is a whole other side to future connectivity, which blends together exciting and fast-moving technologies such as AI, quantum and photonics. You can think of this side of our sector as both contributing new and exciting technology to NetCo architecture as well as underpinning a new generation of SerCo opportunities - those companies offering the service infrastructure that sits on top of the NetCo offering.

Here, there is great scope for innovation aligned to market need and demand. And therefore, significant opportunities for investors.

The role of UKTIN

That's not to say there aren't challenges with our sector - of course, as with any industry, there are.

But UKTIN exists in part to catalyse investment and commercialisation of telecoms R&D. Our scope and range of services are here to help guide spin-outs and start-ups to better understand the commercial realities of the market, ensure their solutions solve real-world needs and guide them to contacts and partnerships with more established players in the market.

As well as support investors better understand and navigate our sector.
