Taryll Channer - Young Ambassador

Taryll is 27 years old and works as a fibre supervisor for Callan Connect, a Civil and Fibre Engineering company based in Aston, Birmingham specialising in the telecommunications industry. Since its inception in 2006, Callan Connect Ltd has grown from a team of 8 to well over 100 and been awarded contracts with blue chip clients such as BT Openreach and Virgin Media.

  • What does your job involve?
    What does your job involve?

    My role is field based and I’m assigned to look after the Fibre blowing teams. This sometimes means hands on support when needed. A big part of my role is quality and compliance and ensuring we’re delivering to client specifications and in a safe way to ensure we deliver fibre brilliantly.

    • Collaboration internally and with the client
    • Working with direct employee’s and subcontractors
    • Supporting and developing others less experienced

    It was advertised on a career vacancy website – the role I applied for was an entry level role and I have worked hard to learn quickly so I can progress.

    None, if you show a willingness to learn and are prepared to be an all- rounder you can achieve such a lot. Being a self-starter is advantageous and showing you have the ability to get the job done.

    I have obtained all of my PIA accreditations for working on the networks and also receive on-job training for new skills and equipment as we grow our business.

    Do it! I never imagined getting an opportunity to start in a business and gain recognition so quickly. This industry and Callan Connect Ltd have changed my life – I never thought I’d get a foot in the door like I have, and I love my job!
