Ian Hindle
More than thirty years of experience working across most aspects of telecoms (design, manufacturing and operations).
Working in Network and Voice Architecture for Virgin Media O2, with a focus on migration of services to ALL-IP (Digital Voice).
Involved with a range of industry engagement forums.
A director of the NICC. https://niccstandards.org.uk/
As a Chartered Engineer, Ian is a highly motivated professional with more than thirty years experience in architecture, engineering, deployment and project management working across telecommunications, electronic hardware, software, electrical and mechanical systems. These projects have varied in size and complexity, from small to large multi year activities.
Starting as an electronic and software developer, Ian moved across to work within the Telecommunications Provider environment. Electronic hardware, software (and now 3D printing) still remains an area of interest, although these days, all as a hobby.
Having focused most of his time in cutting edge telecommunications systems, Ian is presently focused on the task of transforming TDM (Circuit Switched) services into IP based, All-IP services. This is not only challenging for VMO2, but for all communication providers worldwide. Integrated systems and processes are needed to provide the replacement product solutions, but also for the engagement processes for every user. In addition, a small number of users, particularly those with Voice Band Data (VBD) applications will likely find their products impacted by All-IP transformation. VBD is used within alarm systems, telecare and payment systems, all critical systems which must be transformed seamlessly, with customer engagement.
NICC Director
Ian has been a director of the NICC since January 2023.
NICC is an independent organisation owned and run by its members, developing interoperability standards for public communications networks and services in the UK. The members are made up from UK Communications Providers, equipment vendors, service providers, government services (OFCOM, NCSC, etc) and academic institutions.
As well as being a director, Ian is an active member of many NICCs Task Groups and is a vice chair for the ALL-IP and Central Numbering Database Groups.
