Muhammad Shahwaiz Afaqui
Dr. M. Shahwaiz Afaqui is a Senior Lecturer in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the School of Computing, Engineering and Digital Technologies at the Teesside University, Middlesbrough, UK. He completed his master’s degree in electrical engineering (Wireless Systems) from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and his PhD degree in Networks Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in 2009 and 2017, respectively. He has been a research fellow at Connect Centre Ireland, Maynooth University (2016-2018), Wireless Network Group (Wine), and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (2018- 2021). His research interests include radio resource optimization of WLANs (reliability, frequency, energy, interference management, energy harvesting solutions support, among others), cross-layer optimization, network security, 3GPP LTE-WLAN aggregation, Internet of Things (IoT) enabling technologies, and other aspects of 5G. His research contributions encompass over 23 peer-reviewed journals, international conference presentations, and standards submissions, demonstrating his active involvement in wireless network optimisation and IoT technologies. Moreover, he has valuable experience working on European research projects, including participation in FP7 and Horizon 2020 initiatives.
