S Sivavakeesar

Over the past 23 years, Dr S Sivavakeesar (Siva) has been at the forefront of cutting-edge mobile telecommunications related standardizations while getting involved with 3GPP, ETSI, GSMA, 5GAA and 5G-ACIA. Siva is a Senior IEEE member and has filed more than 53 patent applications worldwide and out of which 23 got already granted. Siva is currently a Senior 5G Technologist at Digital Catapult, UK, taking care of defining O-RAN related standardization roadmap while focusing on WG2 and WG3. Earlier, his prime role at a tier-1 telecom equipment manufacturer was to timely identify dire needs of different vertical industries such as automobile and connected factories by monitoring discussions taking place especially in 5GAA, 5G-ACIA and GSMA and analyze them mainly from SA2 perspectives. As part of this exercise, Siva has been delving into IIoT-related SA2 discussions taking place in Rel-16-Rel-18 time-frames. As part of this process, Siva has got himself familiarized with several industrial Ethernet protocols such as Profinet, EtherCAT, and deterministic communication mechanisms such as IEEE 802.1 TSN, DetNet, and Open Platform Communications – Unified Architecture (OPC-UA) FX (field exchange) and other key technologies such as SNPN, sidelink, , digital twinning, exposure of capabilities through NEF. He pushed a number of Solutions for Slicing, Multi-Access Edge Computing and IIoT in Rel-18 time-frame. He already started delving into Open RAN related standardization and 6G research.
