Industry workshop to introduce the Queen Mary consortium spectrum sandbox investigating dynamic sensor-based spectrum sharing
Spectrum sandboxes are testing environments for spectrum sharing scenarios that are not currently possible in ordinary licensing conditions. Through these projects, spectrum applications and systems are being explored by parties across industry and academia, laying the basis for a quicker and more innovative approach to agreeing sharing conditions.
The QMUL-led sandbox is primarily focused on trialling and demonstrating the dynamic assignment of local licences for use of spectrum licensed to mobile operators in areas where the spectrum is under-utilised by the four national mobile network operators, enabled by the use of advanced sensing and dynamic spectrum access database technologies. We will also estimate the economic benefits from using such a dynamic assignment approach and propose the regulatory measures required for implementation in the UK. The consortium comprises of Queen Mary University London, Federated Wireless, Telet, and Aetha Consulting.
The aim of the workshop is to inform a wider group of stakeholders of the work being undertaken and for the consortium to gain feedback on the technical work and approaches to economic modelling.
The event will also feature a dynamic panel discussion on the evolving landscape of spectrum sharing, where we'll explore its increasing importance in meeting the ever-growing demand for connectivity. Our panel, which will include users of shared licences, as well as other members of industry, will tackle key questions on the expected benefits of spectrum sharing, the role of technological advancements and innovative licensing models in fostering collaboration, and the biggest barriers to spectrum sharing in the UK.
For more information about the structure of the event, please see the outline agenda below. Places are limited and the event is in-person only at Queen Mary's West Smithfield campus on Tuesday 11th June at 12:30pm-4:30pm , so please register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
