Kudan started its business from Bristol, UK. We offer software for computer vision technology called SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping). SLAM enables machines and devices understand where they are, how they are moving and how the surroundings look like.

Kudan now has 2 R&D locations in Europe: Bristol, UK and Munich, Germany with 30+ SLAM engineers and business offices in Japan and US. We are the largest individual SLAM software company in the world in terms of the number of SLAM-focus engineers. We are also listed in Tokyo Stock Exchange.

SLAM is essential technology for autonomous vehicles, autonomous mobile robots, drones, AR/VR. These application has quite high relevancy to 5G technology. Therefore, SLAM itself has a large potential to generate synergy and bring more value to the society with 5G technology. For example, SLAM is essential for augmented reality but its processing requirement is quite intensive for smartphones. So instead of processing this on edge devices, we can also do so on cloud. However, this is only possible if the sensor data (such as camera images) can be sent to the cloud and the result get back with very low latency. 5G network plays critical role to achieve this low latency. Actually Kudan is currently working with a Japanese telecom company to provide an augumented reality solution using 5G network and our computer vision software.
