A major new research facility that will help the UK be a world leader in 6G technology is set to be established at the University of Sheffield.

Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) is a key concept being developed for 6G, which transforms cellular networks into radars and allows them to both sense their environment and communicate information about it.

The Federated Telecoms Hubs (FTH) are inviting industry representatives - including investors, SMEs, and large enterprises - to take part in their first industry survey. 

Boldyn Networks and Virgin Media O2 say they have significantly enhanced 5G connectivity at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland with the former’s connectivity-as-a-service (CaaS).

Research and consulting company STL Partners has revised down its outlook for mobile network API revenue – but it is still a lot higher than some other forecasts on the sector’s potential.

Virgin Media O2 (VMO2)'s mobile network is on course for an upgrade thanks to a bunch of frequencies it has agreed to acquire from newly-merged VodafoneThree.

In return for a £343 million outlay, VMO2 will receive 78.8 MHz of spectrum spanning multiple bands:

• Telcos and Wi-Fi providers are lobbying European regulators over the upper 6 GHz band
• The EU’s Radio Spectrum Policy Group is consulting on the matter
• A draft opinion has been published, but a final opinion may still be months away
