Boldyn Networks and Virgin Media O2 say they have significantly enhanced 5G connectivity at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland with the former’s connectivity-as-a-service (CaaS).

The release claims the deployment, part of the Sunderland Open Network EcosysTem (SONET) project, is the UK’s first full neutral host RAN managed service in a high-density demand venue, and promises to provide enhanced mobile connectivity to the stadium.

SONET proclaims to be about digital transformation across Sunderland, partially funded by the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). It represents “a true collaborative effort between public and private entities to bring top of the line digital experiences to fans and visitors,” we’re told, and the other partners are Sunderland City Council, Boldyn Networks, Sunderland AFC, the British Esports Federation and Perform Green.
