A call for members to form five adoption working groups opens today.

The UK can only reap the benefits of advanced connectivity solutions when they’re deployed, adopted and utilised at scale.

Following on from the publication of the Government’s Wireless Infrastructure Strategy and the recent announcement of DSIT’s 5G Innovation Regions fund, UKTIN’s remit has extended to encompass Adoption activities. Our programme will look to bring together businesses who want to adopt 5G services with telecoms providers and vendors, helping them understand the benefits 5G-enabled services can bring to their companies and how they can access this alternative technology. In addition to supporting the 5G Innovation regions, UKTIN will also be developing practical and pragmatic toolkits to help organisations confidently embark on deployment projects.

UKTIN cannot do this alone so a set of adoption-focused working groups are a critical component of our programme.  We will be focusing on four vertical market segments, as well as smart communities in urban and rural places, we are therefore recruiting for the following working groups:

  1. Agriculture/Agri-tech
  2. Health and Social Care
  3. Manufacturing
  4. Transport and Logistics
  5. Regional – encompassing urban and rural

About the Adoption Working Groups

The groups will help us identify how the adoption of advanced wireless networks and technologies can support productivity and efficiency improvements within their specific focus area.

We will focus particularly on the interfaces between:

  1. Various transformative communication technologies;
  2. Operational delivery models and the interplay between enterprise demand-side requirements and the telecoms supply chain;
  3. Commercial business cases, and the availability of markets with real and immediate demand.

We are looking to appoint c.12 individuals to each of the groups, with relevant experience in the group’s focus area, and a desire to encourage digital transformation and productivity gains.

Specifically we are looking for individuals who can provide demonstrable expertise, strategic thinking, and a collaborative ethos. We aim within each group to bring together prospective end customers, telecoms service providers, equipment vendors, system integrators and vertical subject matter experts with existing end customers.

Each group will meet quarterly so members must be able to sign up to that time commitment in addition to, on an ad hoc basis, attending relevant open calls and participating in cross-group workshop activities.

Members will have the unique opportunity, as recognised experts within their fields, to input into discussions that will shape UK wide approaches to benefit the wider ecosystem.

Each group will be led by a Chair, selected by the UKTIN team and endorsed by DSIT. The Chair will be expected to present all input and information provided by the members of their respective groups, to validate future discussion points and topics for meetings.

UKTIN will provide a full secretariat function, ensuring the smooth operational running of group meetings, working with members and the chair to coordinate meetings, set and summarise discussion points.
