Being at the forefront of 5G Open RAN innovation, NEC has established its Global Open RAN Centre of Excellence (CoE) in the UK. The purpose of the centre is to accelerate the global adoption of Open RAN (radio access networks) technology and to further strengthen its structure for accelerating the deployment of 5G.
In November 2020, NEC announced the participation to the NeutrORAN project, an Open RAN test bed running on neutral host architecture, in partnership with the UK government. This was one of the first solutions delivered by NEC’s newly established Global Open RAN CoE.
NEC is committed to fostering and growth of an open 5G ecosystem through its Open RAN Centre of Excellence and is actively collaborating with the O-RAN Alliance (O-RAN), Telecom Infra Project (TIP), European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI), Open Networking Foundation (ONF), 3GPP and the Open RAN policy Coalition (ORPC).
NEC is collaborating closely with Operators, Governments and academic institutions to develop meaningful use cases and unlocking 5G services by driving digital adoption.
