Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) has joined the AI-RAN Alliance to advance the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and innovations in radio access networks (RAN). Established in early 2024, the alliance is a collaborative initiative bringing together technology, industry, and academic institutions to integrate AI into cellular technology to enhance RAN performance and mobile network capabilities.

The organisation researches the biggest challenges facing UK society, and mobile connectivity has been identified as a fundamental part of that.

According to a newly published forecast report by Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, security, networks, and data center industries, the Mobile Core Network (MCN) market 5-year cumulative revenue forecast is expected to decline 10 percent (2024-2028). The reduction in the forecast is caused by severe economic headwinds, primarily the high inflation rates, and the slow adoption of 5G Standalone (5G SA) networks by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).

Using Samsung S24 smartphones as cameras, along with core and RAN gear from Cisco, Orange says it will capture footage that traditional systems would not.

The Belfast 5G Innovation Region (5GIR) programme is working with businesses, academia, and the public sector to support the adoption of 5G and other advanced wireless networks across the Belfast Region. 

Advanced wireless networks are key to the development of innovative products and services across a range of industry sectors including health, manufacturing, transport and logistics, creative industries, and public services. 

The goal of the project is to deliver an in-orbit laboratory, gaining knowledge on End-to-End-Connectivity and the inclusion of satellites in terrestrial mobile networks. It is expected that the result will bring valuable information for the 6G standardization. 6G applications can boost the technological potential of the European digital and aerospace industry and broadband connectivity even further. This opens up growth potential and applications beyond imagination. 

Virgin Media O2 and Vodafone have brokered a new network sharing deal that will also see the former acquire spectrum from a merged Vodafone/Three, should that tie-up come to fruition.

The UK mobile operators have essentially extended their existing network sharing arrangements, regardless of what happens with the Vodafone/Three merger. But the spectrum transfer element of the upgraded deal is the newsworthy item here.
