Juniper helps Telxius upgrade to 400G

Telxius has teamed with Juniper Networks to upgrade its global network to 400G to boost user experiences across its 100,000+ km footprint spanning Europe and the Americas.

This will allow for more efficient delivery of enhanced connectivity across distances of around 100km to points of presence (PoP) across Telxius’ global footprint in Spain, the Americas and wider Europe.

GSMA report highlights AI potential in certain sectors in Africa

New artificial intelligence (AI) applications could boost Africa’s economic growth by $2.9 trillion by 2030, according to a new GSMA report.

The report, dubbed “AI for Africa”, noted that the continent currently represents just 2.5% of the global AI market, but added that nearly 90 AI use cases in markets including Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa can drive socio-economic and climate impact across the continent.

Southwest fibre altnet Wildanet has become the latest UK challenger to attract investment from UK Infrastructure Bank (UKIB), and has secured a revolving credit facility from Santander to boot.

UKIB’s £35m infusion will support Wildanet’ government-subsidised builds under the Project Gigabit scheme.

Reflecting on the DSIT FRANC projects

The previous UK Government’s £250 million 5G Supply Chain Diversification Strategy aimed to incentivise the industry to create new products and services to unlock the full potential of Open RAN. 

FRANC was the first intervention DSIT announced from the Open Networks Programme in 2021. A total of 14 projects were funded to support the goals of the Government’s 5G Supply Chain Diversification Strategy.
