Mobile network operators (MNOs) in particular have to contend with extremely power-hungry radio access networks (RANs). Reducing the power demands and improving energy use has become a business imperative for telcos which, in turn, helps them with their ‘green’ initiatives and corporate responsibility efforts. In a DSP Leaders Council Survey from 2024, we asked if network operators are doing enough to improve the energy efficiency of their networks? Only 49% said yes. In addition, only 18% believed vendors were doing enough to help them. So huge improvements are possible and desirable by all parties.
