FCC mulls giving over 20,000 MHz of spectrum to satellite

The FCC has voted to look at the possibility of opening up more than 20,000 MHz of underused spectrum for satellite, a move that could prove something of a boon for companies operating from space.

Spectrum has become a contentious subject for the satellite industry of late, with players – one big name in particular – lobbying for more of it, while at the same time highlighting the ways in which certain mobile operators are not making the most of their holdings. Specifically, SpaceX has taken umbrage with Dish for sitting on valuable airwaves.
