Hello, my name is Ian Smith and I am the Chief Technology Officer at Quickline Communications. I am responsible for our technological-related decisions across our customer-facing network and internal IT systems.

MEC is an idea for network architectures that brings what are normally described as cloud computing services to the “edge” of a mobile network – generally at the base station, or at a point of aggregation of several base stations.

Unlike the move from 3G to 4G, the transition to 5G has been fairly seamless. It is expected that 5G coverage will have reached 60 per cent of the world’s population by 2026, making it the fastest ever mobile network deployment.

Enhanced connectivity for rural areas

5G RuralDorset today announced a new project expansion to monitor land stability and cliff movement at key points along the Jurassic Coast.
