LLM giants team up to take agentic AI open-source

The Linux Foundation has teamed up with key AI players, including OpenAI and Anthropic, to launch the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF).

Since the commercialisation of agentic AI last year, the tech industry has promised autonomous agents capable of running many operations. But a wide gap between promise and reality has now led to the launch of AAIF. 

Key competitors in the AI field that are participating as its co-founders include Anthropic with its Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Block (the company behind e.g. Square and TIDAL) with its goose tool. Both of these have been open-sourced from inception. Another co-founder is OpenAI and it has offered up its AGENTS.md., which had not been open-sourced until now.
