Indonesian operator Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has deployed Nokia Energy Efficiency to reduce energy demand and carbon dioxide emissions across its RAN network via AI.

The system uses AI and machine learning algorithms to analyse real-time traffic patterns, and will enable the operator to adjust or shut idle and unused radio equipment automatically during low network demand periods.

It uses “intelligent thermal management” to cut network cooling energy needs, and as a SaaS model doesn’t need large up-front capital expenditure or on-site software maintenance and updates, says Nokia.
