OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle have announced further details of their ambitious plan to build $500 billion worth of AI data centres across the US.
Five more sites are currently in the works. Three of them fall within the remit of a partnership established in July between Stargate and Oracle, and they will be built in Texas, New Mexico and a yet-to-be divulged location in the Midwest. Construction is expected to take five years.
Once up and running, their capacity when combined with Stargate's flagship site in Abilene, Texas – which is currently undergoing a 600 megawatt expansion – will total 5.5 gigawatts.
