Telecoms revenues at $1.5 trillion but operators need AI to cut costs

Revenues from telecoms and pay TV services will come in at north of US$1.5 trillion this year with growth exceeding expectations, but telcos will still need to look to AI to help them cut costs and maintain margins.

So clams IDC, which late last week published new figures that show topline growth in 2025 will be slightly better than it predicted earlier in the year; an improvement of 0.1 percentage points better, to be exact. Its headline figure of 1.7% revenue growth this year is, of course, subject to regional variations, including the impact of inflation and economic uncertainties.

So even with $1.53 trillion in revenues coming in, and a forecast of 1.5% compound annual growth over the next five years, thoughts are still turning to cost-cutting.
