The UK government is handing out another few million pounds in hopes of striking semiconductor gold.
According to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), the UK's chip sector is set to grow by 75% between now and 2030.
To help it along, it has – via Innovate UK – made available £10 million worth of funding to boost the development of advanced chips that could one day find their way into smartphones, wearables, cars, aircraft, and defence systems.
As many as 40 businesses stand to benefit.
That comes to £250,000 per company, which when it comes to the highly-specialised business of designing and manufacturing semiconductors, doesn't sound like much.
