GSMA says Europe’s 5G adoption lags behind other regions

While 5G will become the dominant mobile technology in Europe by 2026, the mobile industry lobby group says ‘urgent policy reforms’ are needed to drive access to investment to keep the continent competitive globally.

The report clears its throat by pointing to the successes of 5G across Europe so far. 5G accounts for the majority of connections in Germany and Switzerland, while adoption rates in Denmark, Finland, Norway and the UK have exceeded 40%, we’re told.

Dell’Oro says FWA spend is surging

Analyst Dell’Oro has revised upward estimates of total FWA equipment revenue for the 2023-2027 period by 17%, and says long-term subscriber growth is expected to occur in emerging markets in Southeast Asia and MEA.

According to the report, FWA has ‘surged’ in recent years in both residential and enterprise settings, which it attributes to ‘ease of deployment’ along with the more widespread availability of 4G LTE and 5G Sub-6GHz networks.

WBA calls for unified approach to 6G as wireless industry faces fragmentation

The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) has called for collaboration between Wi-Fi, cellular, and other wireless technologies in its newly released 6G vision statement, warning that industry fragmentation could threaten the goal of achieving truly ubiquitous connectivity.

In a newly released report, the industry body suggested that wireless networks should collaborate rather than compete to ensure uninterrupted connectivity across urban, rural, and indoor environments for next-generation standards.

SNS JU R&I Work Programme 2025 Released

SNS JU publishes its Annual Work Programme and announces €128 million funding for 6G research and innovation in 2025.

The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) announced today the publication of its Annual Work Programme (AWP) 2025, which includes the Research and Innovation Work Programme for 2025 (SNS R&I WP 2025), allocating €128 million in EU funding to advance Europe’s leadership in Beyond 5G and 6G technologies and the future of connectivity.

Hackers breach Telefónica's internal ticketing system, stealing 2.3GB of data

Telefónica is the latest global operator to be targeted by bad actors after hackers breached its internal ticketing system.

BleepingComputer reports that Telefónica admitted its systems had been breached, with the operator “currently investigating the extent of the incident”.
