AI fever sees Nscale raise $1.1 billion to fund hyperscale ambitions

Nokia, Nvidia, Deutsche Telekom and Dell are among a group of investors that have backed budding European hyperscaler Nscale to the tune of $1.1 billion.

The series B funding round is the largest in European history according to Nscale, and furnishes it with the requisite cash to push on with its global deployment of AI factories – data centres crammed with the graphics processing units (GPUs) needed to handle AI workloads.

VodafoneThree signs deals with Ericsson and Nokia worth £2 billion

Recently merged operator VodafoneThree has signed new contracts with Ericsson and Nokia amounting to £2 billion as it targets 5G SA for 90% of the UK population.

The deals with Ericsson and Nokia will go towards VodafoneThree’s stated £11 billion network investment plan, which was a key part of its messaging while regulators were mulling over whether to let the merger go through.

TalkTalk break-up and sale looks imminent

SoftBank gets closer to HAPS launch with six-cell trial

SoftBank has developed a six-cell-capable HAPS payload and used it to deliver 5G connectivity from the sky in a field trial that will help pave the way for a service launch next year.

The Japanese mobile operator this week shared details of the trial that it carried out on Tokyo's Hachijō Island back in June. The technology is pretty complex, but essentially its part of SoftBank's plan to provide wide-area mobile coverage from low-flying aerial vehicles.

The global satellite IoT subscriber base to reach 32.5 million by 2029

The global satellite IoT communications market is growing at a good steady pace according to a new research report from specialist IoT analyst firm Berg Insight. The global satellite IoT subscriber base grew to surpass 5.8 million in 2024. The number of satellite IoT subscribers will increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 41.1 percent to reach 32.5 million units in 2029. Only about 10 percent of the Earth’s surface has access to terrestrial connectivity services which leaves a massive opportunity for satellite IoT communications.

KT’s data breach woes get worse

A cybersecurity cloud is casting an ever darker shadow over South Korean operator KT Corp which, only a week after reporting that its hackers had likely stolen subscriber information after managing to connect illegal mini base stations to the operator’s network, has now admitted that its internal servers have also been compromised on a number of occasions.
