Mobile network analytics firm Opensignal says network sharing between the newly merged operators has unlocked significant coverage improvements.

A key pillar to VodafoneThree’s cunning plan to make the combined entity greater than the sum of its parts is the Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) technology, which allows customers of both operators to connect automatically to whichever of the two networks offers the better signal at a given time and place. The company announced an acceleration on the MOCN rollout in August.

Opensignal recently published a report that was effusively positive in its appraisal of the benefits to subscribers resulting from the merger. The main one is coverage, with pre-merger Vodafone having slightly better general coverage and pre-merger Three having significantly better 5G coverage. As you can see in the images below, subscribers to either network now have better coverage, which is expected to improve further as the MOCN rollout process continues.
