Orange France and Ericsson are collaborating on several trials covering things like Massive MIMO radios, 5G energy-saving features powered by automation and AI, and cloud and Open RAN deployments.
The firms are conducting what they call a focused program of experimental trials, with the broad ambitions of enhancing spectral efficiency, accelerating network automation, and promoting sustainability across mobile networks.
Orange is piloting Ericsson’s FDD Massive MIMO antenna-integrated radios, with the intention of optimising the use of existing spectral assets in zones with high-traffic demand. Multiple deployment configurations are being tested in France “to precisely adapt to various traffic profiles and maximize spectral efficiency, capacity and user experience.”
