Eutelsat and France’s armed forces ministry have made a framework agreement for LEO satellite services in the pursuit of reinforcing French military space comms.

The agreement supports the NEXUS (Neo-Espace pour de multiples Usages Sécurisés) program launched by the French Ministry of Defence, which has the goal of reinforcing the current French military space communications state of affairs by combining military and civilian resources.

The deal is described as the first concrete step in the project. The French defence procurement agency (DGA) signed a 10-year framework agreement with Eutelsat, valued at up to €1 billion in expenditure, which will include the supply of ‘priority-access space resources’, namely capacity on Eutelsat’s OneWeb LEO constellation.
