The Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA) and the Wi-Fi Alliance have stepped up their efforts to convince European lawmakers to reserve the upper 6 GHz band for unlicensed use.
It comes after a spokesperson for Germany's Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDS) told local news outlet Heise that the government was leaning towards allocating the frequencies for mobile, asserting that prioritising their use for 6G would be the most appropriate solution.
It's a welcome development for telcos. They have been calling on the European Commission's Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG) – which is due to finalise its long-term plan for the future use of the upper 6 GHz band at its plenary meeting next week – to reserve it for them.
