T‑Mobile Unveils New Cyber Defense and Executive Briefing Centers

T-Mobile unveiled its new Cyber Defense Center, a purpose-built facility that is designed to enable its security teams to better detect, disrupt and respond to cyber threats in real time, and its new Executive Briefing Center, a gateway for enterprise customers and partners to explore T-Mobile’s technology in action. These two state-of-the-art facilities join T-Mobile’s existing Business Operations Center to create an integrated program for cybersecurity, innovation and resilience at T-Mobile.

UK operators gear up for 5G mmWave launches – once devices allow

  • The UK’s three MNOs spent a total of £39m in Ofcom’s mmWave spectrum auction
  • VMO2 tested 5G SA on mmWave in September 2025, while Vodafone completed tests in 2024
  • But the dearth of mmWave-capable devices in Europe is seen as a key bottleneck to service launches

The UK’s three mobile network operators (MNO) have spent a total of £39 million on licences for new 5G-friendly millimetre mobile airwaves (mmWave), with Virgin Media O2 (VMO2)

Global FWA subs heading for 233 million by 2030 – report

  • Operators around the world have launched fixed wireless access (FWA) broadband services
  • 5G FWA is fuelling market growth
  • ABI Research expects there to be about 233 million FWA connections worldwide by 2030, driving significant operator revenues

Driven in particular by the use of 5G spectrum and supporting infrastructure, the fixed wireless access (FWA) services market is growing at a significant pace and is on course to generate annual global revenues of $111bn by 2030, representing a compound annual growth

Broadcom Introduces Industry’s First Wi-Fi 8 Silicon Ecosystem Powering the AI Era

New license option to help scale vibrant edge of smartphones, PCs, automotives and IoT devices in support of AI-first access devices

Broadcom Inc. announced the industry’s first Wi-Fi 8 silicon solutions for the broadband wireless edge ecosystem including residential gateways, enterprise access points, and smart mobile clients. Broadcom’s Wi-Fi 8 solutions are purpose-built to address the stringent performance, reliability, intelligence, and efficiency demands of AI-era edge networks.

Vodafone makes its case for the upper 6 GHz band

A new network test conducted by Vodafone hopes to persuade European lawmakers to reserve the upper 6 GHz band for mobile.

The UK-based telco took a smartphone equipped with an off-the-shelf MediaTek M90 modem and – using 200 MHz of 6-GHz spectrum and carrier aggregation – managed to achieve a peak downlink speed of 2.5 Gbps.

"Allocating the upper 6 GHz spectrum band for 5G and 6G would give European citizens among the fastest mobile connectivity in the world," Vodafone declared.

Iridium and Qualcomm team up on military satellite comms

Satellite company Iridium has teamed up with chip firm Qualcomm to integrate the former’s data services into the Snapdragon Mission Tactical Radio (MTR).

In essence what’s promised is satellite connectivity in devices with strict size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) requirements aimed at militaries. Integrating the Iridium services into the Snapdragon MTR will mean equipped devices, such as handheld and mounted radios or autonomous vehicles, can tap into L-band satellite communications in environments where terrestrial networks are not ideal.

BT develops ‘network immune system’

  • BT researchers working with Ericsson propose a response to cyber threats that mimics biological immunity
  • The AI-based offering could be deployed internally and offered as a service to enterprise customers
  • The speed of response and remediation is critical as threats to telcos escalate

Researchers at BT are developing a ‘network immune system’ (NIS) that aims to make the telco’s network infrastructure better able to respond to cybersecurity threats.
