
Xiaomi shipped the most wearable band devices in the first quarter of this year, overtaking Apple, as the broader market witnessed an increase in demand, new analyst data shows.
The number of bands, ranging from basic bands to smartwatches, shipped globally during the three months to the end of March came in at 46.6 million, an increase of 13% on the same period last year, according to research from Canalys.
The number one spot went to Xiaomi on the back of 8.7 million unit shipments, up 44% on-year. which gave it a 19% market share. Previous leader Apple was not far behind with 16% of the market, shipping 7.6 million Apple Watches, up 5% on Q1 last year.
"Xiaomi shipped the most wearable bands for the first time since Q2 2021, driven by a broad portfolio and improved integration through HyperOS," said Canalys analyst Jack Leathem,
"Xiaomi has upgraded its Mi Band and Redmi Watch series with refreshed designs and advanced data capabilities, bringing comprehensive features down the price segments, boosting its value proposition," Leathem added. "Its growth has also been supported by effective multi-category coordination and competitive pricing, particularly in emerging economies."
