Reflections on UKTIN

From Adam Lowes, Head of Advanced Connectivity, DSIT.

Over the past three years, UKTIN has helped support and strengthen the UK’s telecoms landscape — turning a scattered ecosystem into a connected, confident community. The programme brought together more than 3,000 organisations and thousands of people from the telecoms community, giving the UK a single front door for collaboration and a clearer sense of national capability.

UKTIN’s expert groups, roadmaps and market insights have directly shaped DSIT’s vision for Advanced Connectivity Technologies (ACT), informing our new £240m+ ACT R&D programme and strengthening the foundations for UK leadership in 6G, AI‑native networks, semiconductors and satellite systems.

From convening national and international events to generating practical adoption toolkits, UKTIN has shown what’s possible when industry, academia and government work as one. As we move into the next phase of ACT policy and investment, DSIT is building on the momentum UKTIN created so the UK remains ready to play a key part in the future of global telecoms.

We’re working hard to make sure the work of UKTIN doesn’t go to waste and will be able to say more soon about how DSIT and UKRI will continue to support the sector. We gave a detailed update this week about the soon to be launched ACT R&D programme. If you missed it and would like to speak with the team about our plans for ACT, you can reach us at [email protected]. Whether you’re developing new capabilities, have insights on barriers to innovation or want to explore collaboration opportunities, we want to hear from you.
