Satellite operator AST SpaceMobile has provided a launch update as it inches towards offering consumer services.

Alongside the publication of SpaceMobile's latest financials, CEO Abel Avellan said the company plans to carry out five additional launches during the next 6-9 months. On a results call transcribed by Investing.com, he revealed that this equates to 60 more satellites that will drive "continuous coverage" of the US, Europe, Japan, and other strategic markets.

That would be a big step up from the five that it currently has in orbit.

SpaceMobile is also on track when it comes to the production of its larger, Block 2 BlueBird low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. The first one is expected to ship in Q2, with orbital launch scheduled for July.
