UKRI grants £13 million in government funding for advanced telecoms tech

The projects include solutions that aim to bridge the digital divide across the UK.

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) says 11 telecom projects that are focused on bridging the digital divide will share a £13 million government funding pot. If it is going to be split equally, each project would receive just under £1.2 million.

The funding will help the improvement of 5G coverage in rural communities, without costly infrastructure upgrades, we’re told. Initially launched last year, this additional funding will go towards building on the existing developments and facilitate the commercialisation of the projects which are focusing on advanced connectivity technologies, including technologies that could be part of 6G networks.
