Virgin Media O2 is creating a new £1 million talent fund aimed at helping charities, local authorities, small businesses and social enterprises to train apprentices.

The idea is organisations can access Virgin Media O2’s apprenticeship levy fund and use it to cover the full cost of apprenticeship training for eligible roles at no cost to them. “The programme is specifically designed to support women and people from global majority backgrounds looking to progress in a STEM-based role and will help build a diverse talent pipeline and leaders of the future,” states the release.

The release explains that apprenticeship levy rules allow large employers to share up to 50% of their levy funds with other organisations, and so it says it is using these funds to help out organisations looking to hire apprentices but which are struggling with the cost or process of doing so.
